Five-Spice Firm Tofu

Watch how to make it here

Firm tofu is the most commonly used type, and for good reason. It’s the most versatile because it can be cooked in many ways. The best way to enjoy it is deep fried so it gets crispy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Coat it with a five-spice seasoning mix to give it a boost of flavor.

Notes:

  1. Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Cooking Instructions

In a wok or large pan, heat up 1 cup of vegetable oil. Once the oil is heated throughout, carefully transfer the tofu into the oil. The tofu might need to be cooked in two batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry the tofu for about 2-3 minutes. Flip the tofu and fry for another 2-3 minutes. Transfer the tofu to a baking rack to cool down.

Transfer the oil from the wok to a heat safe container. With about 1 tbsp of oil remaining, add the garlic, scallions, green bell pepper, and chili pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes and add the fried tofu. Season with the remaining seasoning mix to taste. Mix everything well and cook for another minute. Transfer to a plate and enjoy!
